Summer Student Research Internship Program (SSRIP)
May 26 - August 14, 2015
Applications Now Closed
The Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation has offered summer research internship opportunities to qualified students since 1974. The primary goal of the 12-week program is to provide a mentored, hands-on research experience for college undergraduate, graduate, dental, and medical students considering a career in research. Students work with a research scientist on an independent project and contribute to all aspects of the research process. In addition to the independent projects, students are encouraged to attend medical Grand Rounds, scientific seminars, IRB meetings, and journal clubs. Opportunities to shadow clinicians are also available. All students are required to prepare an abstract describing their research and present orally at the annual Research Symposium on August 13th.

Application Procedure
Applications will be accepted from November 1, 2014 through January 15, 2015. Late applications will not be accepted.
Applications must include the following items for full consideration by the selection committee:
- Recommendation letters from two references
It is important that references be carefully selected. Choose individuals who are able to make the most meaningful comments regarding your qualifications (e.g. academic advisor, supervisor, etc). We recommend at least one academic reference. We will contact your references directly for a letter of recommendation; please inform your references that we will be contacting them. This contact may happen before or after the January 15th deadline. - A personal statement
In 500 words or less, please describe your interest in research, your career goals, how your participation in this program will help you achieve your career goals, and how your academic and work experience has prepared you for this program. - Unofficial or official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools
- Resume or CV
Applications will be accepted from undergraduate students who will have completed at least their sophomore year by June 2015 (however, preference will be given to students in their junior or senior year), graduate students currently enrolled or accepted into a masters or doctoral degree program, and students currently enrolled or accepted into dental or medical school. F-1 international students who hold, or can hold for the purposes of the internship, a valid Employee Authorization Document (EAD) are eligible for application.
Selection
A selection committee will make final selections of student interns based on the applicant’s 1) overall academic standing, 2) references, 3) personal statement, 4) course selection, and 5) interests match with available projects.
Applicants will be notified of the selection committee’s decision generally by March.
Compensation
Student interns are provided housing and an hourly wage of $12-$16/hour, depending on experience. Students are expected to work full-time (about 40 hours/week) for the duration of the program.
